Population Mobility as check on abusive government

Pre-Colonial African politics was very fluid in possibility of people just leaving. This acted as a check on bad governance. Today it is mobility of capital that is supposed to discipline states, but fixing citizenship removes the other alternative, the mobility of people.

Weed legalization in Lebanon

I knew that it made up to 50% of the budget of the Lebanese state pre 1990, and that it was Michel el Murr as Interior Minister who really cracked down on it as a result of American pressure in exchange for arms to the military I think, but I didn’t know that it was legalized by Kameel Chamoun when he was president. Pretty cool.
